A day cover represents one day; a calendar cover represents the whole calendar

A day cover is the photo shown in a specific date cell. A calendar cover is the image representing the entire calendar on Home. You may use the same image for both, but the settings have different locations and purposes.

For a child's growth calendar, a day cover might show that day's most memorable expression, while the calendar cover helps you recognize the whole collection. Changing one does not automatically change the other.

How to change a day cover

When a date contains several photos, designate the one you want to appear in the calendar cell as its day cover. You can also clear that selection to return to the default display.

  1. Open an entry on the date whose cover you want to change.

  2. Select the photo from that day that should appear in the calendar.

  3. Use the action to set it as the day cover.

  4. Return to the calendar and check that the photo in that date cell has changed.

Change the calendar cover in settings

In calendar settings, choose a photo saved in that calendar or an image from your device gallery as the calendar cover. Even a new calendar without photo entries can use a gallery image for its cover.

An image selected from the device gallery is saved only as a cover. It does not create an entry for that date or become a Photolapse frame.

Shared calendars have different permissions

Active members of a shared calendar can set day covers, but an internet connection is required. The server checks permissions because the image for each date must be consistent for all members.

The owner changes the calendar cover because it is a setting for the whole calendar. It is not a personal setting that allows each participant to see a different cover.

Choose images that help you recognize the contents

A useful day cover tells you what happened without opening the entry. Choose a photo with unobstructed faces and a clear subject that remains recognizable in a small date cell.

The calendar cover mainly helps distinguish calendars on Home. If you have several calendars on similar topics, choosing different colors or compositions can make them quicker to find.

How to tell which setting you need

To change the image on Home, edit the calendar cover. To change a particular date cell, edit the day cover. Identifying the location first helps you find the right setting.

  • Calendar card image on Home: calendar cover.

  • Image in one day of the monthly grid: day cover.

  • Use a device gallery image without creating an entry: calendar cover.

  • A daily image that shared members can change online: day cover.

Frequently asked questions

Does changing a day cover also change the calendar cover on Home?

No. Day covers and calendar covers are separate settings. To change the Home image, choose a cover in calendar settings.

Can I set a cover for a calendar with no entries?

Yes. You can choose a device gallery image exclusively as its cover. That image will not be added as a new photo entry.

Can shared calendar participants change cover photos?

Active members can set day covers while online. The owner changes the cover for the entire calendar.
