Start with why you saved the screen

A screenshot that once mattered may later leave you wondering why you kept it. Note whether it held a favorite line, a future destination, or an agreed plan. Preserve the connection to your day instead of copying every word already visible.

Material saved only to review later need not all enter the diary. Choose screens that affected a choice or conversation to distinguish a reference archive from a personal record. The screen descriptions and notes here are editorial examples.

Separate bookings and plans from actual experiences

Distinguish booking day from visit day so a confirmation does not suggest you attended. If plans changed, add ‘Did not visit because the schedule changed.’ Explain when a screen's displayed state differs from what actually happened to you.

‘Chose the exhibition today. Picked this time because my companion wanted a quiet afternoon’ is a planning entry. After visiting, add on-site photos and new reflections. Booking numbers and payment details are not essential to explain the choice.

Consider summarizing a conversation instead of capturing all of it

A meaningful message does not require the entire surrounding chat. ‘My friend offered to help with preparations, which reassured me’ preserves the significance without copying contact details and private dialogue. Distinguish exact wording from your remembered summary.

Reduce the scope if names, profile photos, or stories about others are visible. Shared calendars and exported material may reach an audience the speaker did not expect. Reconsider whether a written summary better serves your purpose than a screenshot.

Remove private details from screenshots you keep

If the screen itself matters, prepare a separate copy on your device and check that only necessary parts remain. After cropping or obscuring, inspect edge notifications, account photos, addresses, and codes. Something invisible in a small preview may still exist in the image; open it large.

  • Top and bottom: inspect notification previews, account names, and other conversation lists.

  • Center: remove booking codes, contacts, addresses, and other irrelevant details.

  • Entry text: check that you did not retype information removed from the image.

Separate external sources from your own reflections

For a book description or exhibition notice, note its name and where you saw it, then explain your choice separately. Cropping may remove the original date or author; add retrieval clues in text. Do not present the captured description as information you created.

A diary is not a place to distribute entire source materials. Before publishing, reconsider whether the screen must be shown or whether your own explanation and a link to the original public page would suffice. If the content may change, note when you saw it.

Choose screens that connect to today's decisions

Answer three questions: what is the screen, why did you save it, and what did you do afterward? ‘I used a walking map to choose my return route, but rain made me take a shorter path’ is a useful entry even though the outcome differed from the plan. You need not preserve only successful plans.

In Pogaem, save the prepared image and short note by date. Do not assume automatic reading or organization of screenshot text; type words you will need to find again. Distinguish screens worth keeping from those whose meaning can be recorded in words alone.

Frequently asked questions

Can I include a booking screen?

Yes. Separate booking from actual attendance and remove unnecessary details such as reference numbers. Explain why you saved it and what happened to the plan afterward.

Should I preserve an entire meaningful conversation?

Not necessarily. Summarize its meaning in your own words, distinguish exact wording from remembered impressions, and check the other person's private information.

Is the screenshot's own text enough without a note?

It may not explain why you saved it. A short note about your reason and actual actions makes it easier to understand later.
