Shared videos follow the owner's plan
Whether a shared calendar can save videos depends on its owner having Lite or above, rather than the plan of the participant selecting the video. A Free participant can add videos if the owner qualifies, while a paid participant cannot enable shared video storage when the owner is on Free.
This keeps responsibility for shared storage and features with one account. It is why checking the member list to identify the owner is the first step when the feature is unavailable.
Video duration and size depend on the owner's plan
Lite allows each video to be up to 30 seconds and 90MiB. Premium allows up to 2 minutes and 360MiB. Shared calendars follow the owner's plan, so prepare a clip within those limits.
Videos use more space than photos and count toward the owner's storage. In a travel or parenting calendar where several people upload at once, the owner should also review the remaining space.
What to check before adding a video
Checking the owner's plan, video length, connection, and storage before uploading can prevent interruptions during preparation. Do not assume the feature is available just from viewing your own subscription.
Identify the shared calendar's owner in the member list.
Check that the owner uses Lite or Premium.
Check that the video is within 30 seconds and 90MiB for a Lite owner, or 2 minutes and 360MiB for a Premium owner.
Check that the owner has enough storage remaining.
Select and save the video on a stable internet connection, monitoring its status until saving finishes.
Upgrading a participant's plan may not resolve it
If the message says the owner needs Lite or above, upgrading a participant's plan will not change this calendar's video conditions. The owner must check their subscription, or the entry can use photos and notes without video.
Conversely, when the owner has Lite or above, a Free participant can add videos within the shared calendar's limits. Calendar ownership determines the conditions.
Distinguish the messages when an addition is blocked
Not every failed video save is a plan issue. Identify whether the message concerns the owner's plan, insufficient storage, the network, or video preparation so the right person can act.
Owner-plan notice: check that the owner has an active Lite or higher plan.
Storage notice: the owner should make room or review their plan's allowance.
Video-length notice: prepare the clip within the owner's Lite 30-second or Premium 2-minute limit.
Upload failure: check the connection and retry.
Read-only notice: check the owner's subscription and the shared calendar's status.
Choose the owner first for a calendar that will collect videos
Before creating a shared calendar for regular videos of a child, pet, or family trips, agree on its owner. Ownership transfer is currently unavailable, so choose someone who can consistently maintain Lite or above and sufficient storage for everyone to record under the same conditions.
Frequently asked questions
Can participants on Free upload videos to a shared calendar?
Yes. The owner's plan, rather than each participant's personal plan, determines availability. With a Lite or higher owner, Free participants can add videos within the limits.
Can a Premium participant upload videos if the owner is on Free?
No. Shared calendar video conditions follow the owner's plan, so the owner needs Lite or above.
What are the video limits for shared calendars?
With a Lite owner, each video can be up to 30 seconds and 90MiB; with a Premium owner, up to 2 minutes and 360MiB. Also check the owner's remaining storage and the network connection.
