Photo order and viewing direction are separate settings
Photo order decides which scene comes first within an entry. Viewing direction decides whether you swipe between those photos horizontally or see them in a vertical sequence. Changing one does not change the other.
A trip may need a sequence from departure to arrival, while a work in progress may feel more natural from top to bottom. Adjusting these settings separately helps you convey the intended flow.
How to reorder photos within an entry
Open the entry editor, move photos to the positions you want, and save. The arrangement shown there becomes the default order in the entry detail screen.
Open the calendar entry whose photos you want to reorder.
Tap Edit and wait for the full photo list to load.
Long-press a photo and move it to the right place in the story.
Review the first and last images and the flow between them.
Save, then check the order in the entry detail screen.
Horizontal swiping helps you focus on one image
Horizontal viewing displays one photo at a large size before you move to the next. It suits portraits, landscapes, food, or any entry where each image deserves attention, and keeps entries with many photos from becoming long pages.
Horizontal swiping is also the default viewing mode for new calendars. If it suits you, there is no need to change the setting.
Vertical viewing connects the whole process
Vertical viewing places photos one after another from top to bottom, making it useful for comparing a continuous process. It works well when adjacent scenes matter, such as cooking steps, artwork, or exercise form.
Many photos can make the page long, so horizontal swiping may be easier when you want to focus on each image. There is no single correct choice; use the mode that fits the calendar's topic.
Viewing direction applies to the whole calendar
Horizontal or vertical viewing is a calendar-level setting, not an entry-level one. Other dates in the same calendar change too, so review several representative dates before deciding.
In shared calendars, this display setting applies to all members and only the owner can change it. Participants cannot save different personal viewing directions.
Take extra care with video order
Photos and newly added videos may appear together in the writing screen, but there are limitations on saving a new order for videos that already exist. Avoid making major changes on the assumption that existing videos can be freely rearranged.
After reordering photos, check the actual photo and video playback order in entry details. For a new entry where video placement matters, finalize the order before the first save.
Frequently asked questions
Does reordering photos change their capture dates?
No. It changes only their display order within an entry. The entry's calendar date stays the same.
Can I use horizontal viewing for one entry and vertical viewing for another?
Viewing direction is currently a calendar-level setting. All entries in one calendar use the same mode.
Can shared calendar participants change the viewing direction?
The owner changes this setting because it applies to all members. It is not a separate personal preference for each participant.
