Do Cloud-Synced Photos Still Need a Separate Backup?

Understand sync, uploads, and independent backups. Check Pogaem's personal-calendar ZIP contents and open saved files before deleting entries or replacing a device.

Sync keeps the latest state; backups preserve a point in time

Synchronization lets you continue the same diary on a phone and tablet. Editing a title on one device updates it elsewhere. To keep the travel diary as it looked before reorganizing it, you need a separate file copy.

Ask: ‘Should the old copy remain unchanged after later edits?’ If yes, ongoing synchronization alone cannot provide that. Using the cloud does not necessarily let you restore every previous state whenever you want.

A visible photo does not mean its upload is complete

Pogaem can show photos and entries stored on the current device. A newly added image may therefore appear despite unstable internet or insufficient cloud space. That alone does not mean another device can download the same original yet.

Check cloud storage status in calendar settings. Investigate any saving, finishing, or failure messages first, especially for large videos and recent entries. Deleting the only local copy to troubleshoot uploads may remove the original you need to inspect.

Distinguish synced deletions from cleaning up copies

Deleting a photo or entry in the app is different from clearing temporary device files. Entry deletions also synchronize, so another device displaying it does not make that device an independent permanent copy. Avoid assuming it is safe to delete because it still appears elsewhere.

A file you exported and stored separately is another copy. If its folder synchronizes with another service, check that service's deletion behavior too. Knowing its location and connections matters more than merely naming it ‘backup.’

A personal-calendar ZIP creates a material copy

You can export a personal calendar's photos, videos, and notes as a ZIP for separate storage. Open export under Data Management in Pogaem settings and select the personal calendar. Entire shared calendars are not included in this export, so it cannot back up everyone's shared entries together.

Cloud-only originals must be downloaded, and unavailable media may produce missing-item notices. A completed ZIP does not prove every file is present. The ZIP extracts material for storage; it is not a guarantee that importing one file restores all app settings.

Finish the backup by opening its contents

A large file is not necessarily a complete backup. Before overwriting an old backup with a same-named file, decide which point in time you need. Base cleanup decisions on copies whose actual contents you have checked.

  1. Decide the calendar, period, and required photos, videos, and notes.

  2. Check synchronization and upload status, create the copy, and review any missing-item notices.

  3. Move the result to its storage location and reopen it there.

  4. Sample early, middle, and recent dates; open photos, play videos, and check required notes.

  5. After checking for missing items, name the copy with its calendar and creation date.

  6. Keep the original entries and old device until these checks are complete.

Use everyday sync and backups at meaningful milestones

You need not create a large ZIP after every entry. Check sync routinely and choose milestones for independent copies, such as finishing a travel record or changing devices. Set intervals according to record volume and the period you would not want to lose.

Later entries are not automatically added to an existing ZIP. Keep the latest backup date visible to identify the unbacked-up period. Sync and backup serve different purposes: continuing current work and preserving a particular state.

Frequently asked questions

Is it backed up if I can see it on another device?

Same-account synchronized records share the latest state, including possible edits and deletions. They differ from an independent copy fixed at an earlier point.

Can I delete the originals immediately after making a ZIP?

First review missing-item notices and open the ZIP from its storage location to check photos, videos, and notes. Completion alone does not establish completeness.

Are new photos automatically added to an existing ZIP?

No. A ZIP reflects export time. Export again to include later entries and distinguish the copies by date.
